October is one of my favorite months of the year--all the Fall decorations go up, Pumpkin EVERYTHING goes in my belly, it's Mark's birthday month, and October has the only day of the year where it's acceptable to wear banana costumes in public... Halloween!

For the past few years, Mark's mom has organized a day where she takes the grandkids to Gardner Village to see the witches. This year it was freezing and windy so it was more brief than the year before. It was still a blast and the kids loved running around looking at all the pumpkins and tasting some treats.

Violet, Bella, Noah

Poppy and Noah
These two just melt me...they could be twins!

Another fun tradition that Mark's family does is a big themed birthday celebration on the first Sunday every month. This past year the theme was Countries Around the World--Mark picked Germany. And HOLY COW it was a home run. His dad picks up a cook book with recipes from that country, cooks from those recipes, and then gives us the book as a gift. I'm talking 4 courses here.

I need to get me some mugs this size!

Isn't the saying..."It's GREAT to be TWENTY-EIGHT!" ??

Ryan enjoying his brew.

I know that might not look very appetizing to some of you, but I was really excited to own up to the fact that I am 1/4 German! That must be why I non-stop drooled over this meal.

This was my contribution to his birthday celebration on his birthday...

It tasted A LOT better than it looks. Holy cow. THE. MOST. DELICIOUS. CAKE I've EVER had. We are committed to making this cake the designated Birthday cake because if we had it more than once or twice a year....let's just say...heart attack fo sho. I got it off of Our Best Bite's website. It's "Carrot Cake Supreme". You will NOT be disappointed, trust me.

Enough about the cake...Mark Jeffery...You are now 28 years of absolute sweetness. You never complain about my complaining, you laugh with me and think I'm funny when no one else does, and things just keep getting better with you, and to me, that's a good sign that I married UP. Gone are the days of toilet seats being left up, shower curtains remaining open, and leaving dirtied cups in your car. I, on the other hand, STILL hate doing the dishes, leave a trail of clothes on the floor in our closet, probably have dinner made for you only two times a week, and park like an absolute maniac. Yet, you never point out my flaws like I do yours and you love me unconditionally. Man. You put up with so much and I don't know who would be able to handle me better than you do. I'm a handful; but you know just how to make me feel special and loved. I'm so glad you were born. You're officially in your "late twenties", you old man! :)

  1. I am in love with that countries around the world birthday meal idea!! You must have amazing cookbooks by nos! And that carrot cake is seriously amazing. I could eat it every day if I wasn't, like you said, afraid to have a heart attack. I'm disappointed not to see your old lady costume, but it sounds like it was a riot!
